The University of Limerick wins Big at National Society Awards 2018
Over 400 staff and students from colleges across Ireland took part in the annual Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) Awards 2018, which were held in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cork on Friday 13th April. The National Society Awards 2018 saw student college societies, from all over the country, compete against each other for awards in 13 different categories. One of the major highlights in the college calendar, these awards celebrate the unyielding work students do to create a greater, more enjoyable and more holistic college life for their peers. This year UL Students Union Societies took home two awards, winning Best Society Individual and Best Society Fresher.
Conor Walsh was named the 2018 winner of the Best Society Individual award at the National Society Awards 2018. Conor is a 2nd Year student of Electronic and Computer Engineering in UL and is President of the UL Computer Society. Under his dynamic leadership this year, CompSoc has been reinvigorated and increased its membership, events, sponsorship and income. His commitment, passion, negotiating and organisational skills have ensured an improved experience for members and massively improved the society’s equipment and services.
UL also took home the award for Best Society Fresher for UL Music Society’s Ethan Carey. Ethan is a first-year student of Business and German in UL and a committee member of UL Music Society. This year he has proven instrumental in the resurgence and revival of the society by merit of his passion, innovative ideas and his trademark enthusiasm.
