The preferred location for the new Moyross train station has been revealed as the rear of Corpus Christi Primary School and Moyross Community Enterprise Centre

Iarnród Éireann plans to construct a new rail station in the Moyross area of Limerick, on the existing Limerick to Galway line. It is hoped the new station will provide improved connectivity for the area’s growing population between Moyross and Limerick City Centre as well as Dublin, Galway, Cork, and other routes in Ireland.
The new station will also integrate with Limerick City and County Council’s proposed University Avenue scheme, as well as the NTA’s BusConnects Limerick, and the proposed Limerick CycleConnects Network.
The provision of a new rail station in Moyross is highlighted as one of the rail-based measures in the Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (LSMATS) 2040 and was also listed as an objective in the Limerick Development Plan 2022 – 2028.
As a publication consultation period gets underway for the project, Jim Meade, Iarnród Éireann Chief Exectutive noted, “The provision of a new station at Moyross is a key strategic development for the area and we look forward to serving the community of Moyross from 2026.”
Mr Meade has urged as many people as possible to get involved in the public consultation saying the feedback “will inform the ongoing design for the project”.

Improved public transport connections for the people of Moyross are hoped to have approximate journey times of 11 minutes to Limerick Colbert, 15 minutes to Sixmilebridge, 32 minutes to Ennis, and less than 2 hours to Galway.
It is believed that by 2043 almost 7,000 people will live within a 15 minute walk of the proposed new Moyross Station.
The public consultation on the preferred location will run from up to to Friday, June 14, 2024 and the public are invited to contribute to the process and express their opinions.
There is also an Iarnród Éireann public information evening at Moyross Community Enterprise Centre on Wednesday, June 5 between 4:00pm and 8:00pm, where the public can learn more about the project and meet with members of the design team.
