Mungret Community College Makes The Move To Multi-Million Euro State-Of-The-Art Campus

Limerick and Clare ETB celebrated the first day of classes at Mungret Community College’s new school campus
Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board celebrated the first day of classes at Mungret Community College’s new school campus located at a 10-acre greenfield site in Mungret.
The €36 million euro investment under the Department of Education’s Schools Capital Programme for Post-Primary Schools will cater for 1,000 students, making the state-of-the-art campus one of the largest schools in the region.
The new 11,379m² school, over three levels, features 58 teaching spaces including: 33 General Classrooms, two Specialist Autism Classes, two Design and Communication Graphics Rooms, six Science Labs, two Art/Craft Rooms, two Home Economics Rooms, a Technology Room, two Multimedia Labs, a Music Room, a Textile Room, two Construction Studies rooms, an Engineering Room, a Library, a PE Hall and Fitness Suite, multiple ancillary spaces, and extensive external areas including a pitch and six Hard Play Courts.
Commenting on the school’s first official day in its new home, George O’Callaghan, Chief Executive, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, said: “As Mungret Community College embarks on a new chapter, this is a very exciting time for the entire school community. Principal Liam O’Mahoney and the staff have been providing the highest academic standards since its establishment in 2017. I know they will continue to promote the school’s values of creativity, innovation and academic excellence at this new campus. The high quality of facilities in the new school are the result of significant government investment and is part of a multi-million euro programme of capital development in ETB community colleges throughout our region.”
The new campus boasts a range of cutting-edge facilities, including:
Sustainable Design: The campus is designed to minimise its environmental impact and maximise energy efficiency; the school has 450m² of photovoltaic panels.
State-of-the-Art Technology: Every classroom is equipped with the latest technology to support interactive teaching, learning and assessment with a focus on each student’s personalised learning journey.
Creative and Collaborative Spaces: The campus features numerous collaborative spaces where students can work together on projects, engage in discussions, and express their creativity.
Extensive Sports Facilities: The campus includes a fully-equipped sports hall, a gymnasium, and outdoor playing field to support the school’s strong sporting tradition.
Welcoming students this morning to the new school, Liam O’Mahoney, Principal, Mungret Community College, said, “Today is a very special day for the whole school community as we welcome both our 6th year and our incoming 1st year students to this amazing new campus. This is the culmination of eight years of planning and development that has delivered these excellent facilities provided by Limerick and Clare ETB.
“Our state-of-the-art new school campus will benefit both students and staff as we continue to provide high quality innovative teaching and learning in an inclusive and supportive environment, helping our students to achieve academic excellence.
“I would like to thank all our students, parents and guardians, Parents Association, Board of Management, staff members, Deputy Principals Helen Ryan and Éanna Kennedy, and the ETB for all their wonderful support since our school opened. Our commitment to all our students will continue to be the key priority as we support their emotional, social and educational development throughout their journey in this new campus.”
The Design Team for the state-of-the-art new building was headed up by Healy Partners Architects with construction by Coolsivna Construction Group. Work commenced on site in 2022 and was completed for handover this past week.
