New Road Clinic Launches New Pregnancy Diagnostic Service

New Road Clinic Launches New Pregnancy Diagnostic Service

New Road Clinic, an established obstetrics/gynaecologist practice celebrating 5 years in business in Limerick this year, has launched a niche service for couples who are having difficulty getting pregnant.  The new Pregnancy Assist Clinic has been launched as a first step towards addressing couples fertility concerns.  It is estimated that one in six couples in Ireland is affected by infertility.

Since opening its doors in 2014, the clinic has treated over 4,500 women. Dr Michal Dydowicz, the lead gynaecologist at the practice, is certified by The Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF).

The Clinic offers a suite of affordable tests, scans and procedures for couples having difficulty conceiving and acts as a precursor to fertility treatment. Services include a range of diagnostics from full blood profiles to determine hormone levels to imaging tests which can identify potential blockages in the fallopian tubes, as well as specific tests and procedures, like ovulation prediction and follicle tracking, which have been shown to improve pregnancy success rates in some women.

Having treated over 4,500 women since the clinic opened in 2014, Dr Michal Dydowicz, the lead gynaecologist at the practice, identified the need for this niche service.  He explained, “A great deal can be done before referring to a fertility clinic. We offer a number of tests that can help a couple ensure the conditions are right to get pregnant. For instance, a follicle tracking ultrasound helps identify if a woman is ovulating and exactly when the follicle releases the egg.  Having a fertility evaluation first can prevent the need for going down the road with expensive fertility treatment.”

“For a couple struggling to fall pregnant, it can understandably be an emotional and stressful time. The services we offer couples can be viewed as a first stage intervention to ensure they can optimise their chances to conceive. If we do diagnose a fertility problem, we will then determine if prescription fertility drugs could work or if they should consult a fertility specialist for treatment.”

An added benefit for couples is that appointments can be made direct. There is no need for a referral from a GP.

Last year, New Road Clinic invested in the very latest scan technology provided by SAMSUNG, a high-resolution elite ultrasound system designed to meet the needs of women’s healthcare. With the very latest technology, New Road Clinic can produce a wide variety of scans to women who are pregnant including Fetal Viability Scans, NT Scans, Fetal Anomaly Scans, Well Being Scans, Gender Scans and 3D/4D Bonding Scans.

New Road Clinic also specialises in early pregnancy and recurrent miscarriages.
