Shannon Airport has announced that newly qualified Airport Search Unit members have joined the team during a busy summer period

Shannon Airport has welcomed new members to its Shannon Airport Search Unit (ASU) team following a period of training just in time for a busy summer period.
Welcoming the new recruits, Shannon Airport said, “Congratulations to five new Shannon Airport Search Unit (ASU) officers who have completed their training and joined the team during the busy summer season!”
Hailing from Clare, Limerick and Galway, the new recruits bring a wide range of experience, and following an intensive training programme covering advanced screening systems, cabin baggage search techniques, manual handling and Sunflower Hidden Disability Awareness, they are ready to put their newly acquired skills into practice and help maintain the highest standards of safety, security and customer service at Shannon Airport.
The new recruits join during a busy year for the airport which has recorded a strong first half of 2026, welcoming 1.17 million passengers, a 12 per cent increase on the same period last year, driven by an expanded route network, increased capacity and sustained demand for travel.
The airport also recorded its busiest day in 17 years on Sunday, June 28, when 11,400 passengers travelled through Shannon, reflecting strong peak-season demand, and 22 per cent more than the busiest day last year.
Commenting on the performance, Ray O’Driscoll, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, said, “Growth at Shannon Airport is being driven by real demand, supported by new routes and more choice for passengers, reflecting the confidence of our airline partners and the strength of the region as a tourism and business destination.
“Our focus now is on capitalising on this momentum by continuing to grow connectivity and deliver a high-quality experience for passengers travelling through Shannon.”
