Niall Casey, who is a makeup student attending Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD), is one of 10 competitors hoping to win Glow Up Ireland.

The new series began on Thursday, September 2, on RTÉ2. Glow Up Ireland is presented by TV star, model and influencer Maura Higgins, and is a competitive factual entertainment series.

Ten of Ireland’s best amateur make-up artists (MUAs) are challenged in a range of tasks to show off their skill, artistry, imagination and technical know-how.

The competitors are tasked with creating amazing make-up transformations, which all take place in a Covid-safe dedicated studio space, at Glow Up HQ. Only one of the ten will gain the title of Ireland’s Next Make-Up Star and will win an incredible opportunity to further their professional career.

Niall, from Cahersiveen, has accumulated over 10m likes on TikTok with a speechless character, and is afraid of putting more of his personality out there.

“I had to learn not to be shy in order to put myself out there and face the world,” he said.

Niall is the youngest contestant on the show, and only bought his first eyeshadow pallet 2 years ago.

“I really just got into makeup because I thought it was another way to express my creativity,” he said.

While his older brother thought Niall may follow him in his GAA footsteps, Niall instead turned to the makeup brushes.

His said his parents have been supportive of his love for makeup, but mostly because he didn’t give them a choice.

While he did face the red chair in the first episode of the series, he quickly jumped back and is looking like a strong contender in the competition.

“I would say I’m doing this for all the people like me, the people who are afraid to do makeup, afraid to express themselves, because of judgment, and I want to inspire you to pick up the makeup brush and slay it,” he said.

The I Love Limerick crew wish Niall the very best of luck in the competition!

Glow Up Ireland is available to watch on Thursdays at 9.35pm on RTÉ2 or on the RTÉ player.
