Nicola Tipping hosts A Taste of South Africa at Co Limerick’s Mustard Seed

Nicola Tipping from the internationally acclaimed Mullineux Wines in South Africa will visit Co Limerick on Thursday 27 June 2019 to host an intimate dinner at the Mustard Seed in Ballingarry. The evening will feature wines from multi award-winning Swartland winemakers, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, along with a special menu by Mustard Seed head chef, Angel Pirev.

Throughout the evening, Nicola will introduce each of the wines, some of which may be served in magnums, and provide an insight into the winery’s philosophy of sustainable winemaking.  This all starts in the Swartland vineyards where there is a rich heritage of old vines, judicious plantings of new vineyards and working with a select group of growers who follow sustainable farming practices in their vineyards.  The Swartland is ideally suited to natural methods of farming as it enjoys very low summer rainfall coupled with afternoon and evening breezes from the Atlantic Ocean.

Mullineux Wines have been awarded the title of Platter Winery of the Year in 2014, 2016 and 2019 and obtained more Platter 5 star awards for their wines than any other winery in the 39 year history of this highly respected annual publication. Andrea Mullineux was named “Winemaker of the Year 2016” by the US magazine Wine Enthusiast, a first for any winemaker in South Africa and only the third female winemaker ever to receive this award.

There is also an interesting Irish connection. The Mullineux’s “Roundstone Farm” in Riebeek Kasteel was named after the Connemara fishing village by its previous owner Brendan McCoy from Co Antrim.

John Edward Joyce, proprietor of the Mustard Seed said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for those who enjoy good wine as well as avid wine enthusiasts to experience a selection of premium wines.  We are very much looking forward to introducing Nicola to many of our regular guests and hope to welcome lots of new faces also.”

The dinner with Mullineux Wines will be co-hosted by specialist Cape wine importer Dr Éilís Cryan of Kinnegar Wines, Galway and costs €75.00 per person.  Dinner with wines and bed and breakfast is available from €135.00 per person sharing subject to availability.
