‘The Moment Before’ sees Limerick Talent shine at NITIIN International Film Festival
‘The Moment Before’, a powerful short film which featured some Limerick acting and production crew, has taken home a major award at the NITIIN International Film Festival

Written and Neha Dubey, directed by Neha Dubey and Declan Gill, The Moment Before tells the moving story of 19-year-old Liam, a young man overcome with guilt and despair.
Standing at the edge of a cliff, Liam believes there is no way back from the mistake he’s made. As he wrestles with his emotions, the film delicately explores the weight of responsibility, the fragility of family bonds, and the thin line between hopelessness and healing. Told with emotional nuance and sensitivity, it’s a quiet yet powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, clarity and hope.
Screened at the NITIIN International Film Festival in Malaysia, the short film was awarded Best Script. NITIIN is known for discovering new filmmakers and aims to foster cultural exchange as it promotes the filmmaking industry globally and in Malaysia.
A number of Limerick actors played key roles in the production, including Cathal O’Doherty, Kenneth Barry, Philip Wright, and Katie Barry. Kenneth Barry, who also co-produced the film, portrayed Liam’s father, while his real-life daughter Katie took on the role of Liam’s sister.
Speaking about the achievement, Kenneth said, “It was a super proud moment to have my own daughter work on set with me. I was so excited to have been given the part taped myself for Neha, the producer, who was very happy with it and offered me the role.
“All the team were so excited to hear it got a place in the NITIIN International film festival, but if that wasn’t enough, we only went and won best script at the NITIIN International film festival. I’m so proud of the cast and crew that worked so hard to make this possible. I think everyone is still in shock.”
