Little Blue Hero, Noah Quish, has had his journey to recovery followed and supported by the Limerick community, and the young Limerick boy is now facing a new lifelong medical challenge following a recent health update.

Noah’s mother, Una, has shared an update through the family’s GoFundMe page that Noah has been diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the oesophagus.

The GoFundMe page, which has raised more than €20,000, with donations from more than 800 donors, toward its €25,000 target, to help with the expenses related to Noah’s medical needs.

EoE causes inflammation and narrowing of the oesophagus, leading to difficulty swallowing, frequent vomiting, and choking, which his mum explains he has been experiencing.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, Una said, “New update on Noah is that his biopsy from his oesophagus came back with EoE which is an inflammation and narrowing of the oesophagus causing him to choke which explains the vomiting, gagging and trouble swallowing thicker foods, unfortunately dairy can trigger this too so he will need to stop eating the foods his only able to eat so not sure what the plan will be going forward. We will meet the dietitian on Thursday and will discuss then.”

Noah continues to rely on PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) feeds at night, and according to Una, this will remain a permanent part of his care and the young boy has already begun treatment aimed at reducing the inflammation in his oesophagus.

The family aims to bring Noah to Boston for intensive speech and language therapy to help with his speech and feeding issues, but following the recent health update, Una explains the family’s plans have been postponed, she said, “We postponed Boston until we figure out what to do about his swallow and once his deemed safe we will start intensive therapy again.”

As donations continue to be made as they aim to reach their target, the family has thanked everyone for their support. Una said, “Thanks so much for all your support, we really appreciate it. He will have spine surgery in the coming weeks.”
