Northstar Family Support Project will host its 2024 Service of Commemoration and Hope on Thursday, October 3
The Northstar Family Support Project is set to host it’s Annual Service of Commemoration and Hope on Thursday, October 3, 2024, welcoming anyone affected by addiction, including families, individuals, and partner organizations.
Coordinator of the Northstar Family Support Project, Joe Slattery said they hope all of those involved in the Northstar Family Support Project would feel welcome to what is “always a very special and moving occasion”.
He said, “We hope that past and present participants of our service, partner organizations, families, and individuals who have lost loved ones to addiction, or anyone struggling and looking for hope, will join us. The Service of Commemoration and Hope is always a very special and moving occasion.”
This annual service, which began in 2008, the year Northstar was established, and presents a chance for participants, their families, friends, and all those impacted by substance misuse, to reflect, connect, and support while highlighting the national issue of substance misuse and offering a space for people to come together and heal.
Mr Slattery noted, “The service is an opportunity for connection and reflection. If you have lost a loved one to addiction you are not alone in your pain. This service allows us to come together to support each other and highlight that substance misuse is a national issue.”
Northstar Family Support Project, founded in 2008 as a response to the growing need for support for families dealing with substance misuse within the family system, is a community-based project providing non-judgmental, respectful support to people over the age of 18 who are affected by and trying to cope with a family member’s substance misuse, throughout the Limerick region.
Participants have access to drug education, personal development programmes, holistic treatments, and hobby groups, such as arts and crafts, creative writing, and woodwork. The organization further facilitates counselling to help participants process their experiences and build healthier boundaries with loved ones affected by addiction.
