Limerick’s Sixth Annual Service of Hope and Commemoration, organized by Northstar Family Support Project, will be held Thursday October 2nd at 7pm in the St. Augustinian Church on O’Connell Street, with refreshments being served after in the Hook and Ladder on Sarsfield Street.

The purpose of holding the Service of Hope and Commemoration is to remember loved ones within our communities who were lost through drug and alcohol misuse, in addition to supporting and offering hope to the families left behind or those who are in recovery or currently engaged in active drug use.

The theme of the service this year is “Hope Grows Here” which symbolizes the strength and growth that can be generated when communities persevere to keep hope alive by encouraging friendships and supporting one another. This embraces the act of extending a healing hand to help those presently experiencing or facing dark situations whilst instilling a strong sense of hope for a brighter future.

We have invited communities throughout Limerick city to write personal messages of remembrance on green leaves and these will be attached to the trees on display during the service. These leaves will be available on the night for people attending to fill in their own messages.

Incorporated into the service are various poems, personal reflections and music which embrace our theme of “Hope Grows Here”, whilst also acknowledging the pain and distress experienced by families involved in addiction. These will be performed by numerous individuals across the city of Limerick and convey the powerful message that hope is always present, it holds no boundaries and plays a significant role in healing, growth and moving forward.

We would love you to join us on October 2nd in remembering our loved ones who have tragically died from drug or alcohol misuse and to offer hope to the families of those still involved in active drug use or in recovery.
