Limerick’s NOVAS initiative, offering intensive support to families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, has put out the call for the public to support their annual Christmas Sleep Out this festive season.

The group are calling on individuals, families, companies and clubs to support their annual Christmas Sleep Out, taking place outside Brown Thomas on O’Connell Street on Saturday, December 6.

The Christmas Sleep Out is the charity’s largest annual fundraiser, raising vital funds to support frontline services that provide accommodation, food, support and essential interventions for people experiencing homelessness.

Registration is now open online for the event, where supporters are asked to “give up their bed” for a night of solidarity, raising funds and awareness for homelessness.

Participants can register individually or as part of a team through the NOVAS campaign page on iDonate. Once registered, participants can create and personalise their own fundraising page, making it simple to collect donations and share their story through messages or social media. Sponsorship cards are also available upon request.

Head of Advocacy and Communication at NOVAS, Una Burns, said NOVAS is inviting everyone, families and friends, companies and clubs, to give up their bed “for one night in solidarity with those who have no place to call home”.

She added, “Every participant will help to bring warmth, safety, and hope to some of the most vulnerable people in our community at the most difficult time in their lives. We want as many people as possible to take part this year and make it our most successful event to date. Please get involved and help us spread the word.’

The organisation said, “By taking part, you will be helping NOVAS continue its mission to provide lasting solutions to homelessness. Together, we can make a real difference – and work towards ending homelessness for good.”
