Novas Sparkling Afternoon Tea in Celebration of International Women’s Day

Novas Sparkling Afternoon Tea in Celebration of International Women’s Day at the Savoy Hotel

Novas are a voluntary organisation who work with vulnerable people and provide support for the homeless. Novas will be celebrating International Women’s Day with a Sparkling Afternoon Tea, hosted at the Savoy Hotel on Friday, March 8. There will be a prosecco reception and an afternoon tea, along with entertainment and all proceeds raised from the event will be going towards Novas.

Roisin Meaney, a local author, will also be present at the event as a guest speaker.

Roisin Meaney, local author, will be the guest speaker at the Novas Sparkling Afternoon Tea.

Roisin Meaney is originally from Kerry and grew up in Tipperary, but she now resides in Limerick. She began writing in 2001 and in 2004, her first book “The Daisy Picker” was published by publishing house Tivoli. She signed up with Hodder Headline Ireland (now Hachette). She has written a total of sixteen books, two of which are children’s books. Several of her books have been translated into multiple different languages. In 2008, she gave up her teaching career to fully immerse herself into her writing. 

Roisin talked about the upcoming event, “I was delighted to be invited to take part in what promises to be a lovely event at the Savoy. I’m a big fan of Novas and a great admirer of the wonderful work they do. I’m looking forward to playing my small part on March 8 and hoping that the women of Limerick will show their usual generosity by coming out in their droves to support this very worthy cause.” 

Novas are an Approved Housing Body, who helps people in the Limerick community who have become homeless, as they believe everyone is entitled to a home. In 2002, Novas was first established in Limerick as a temporary supported, low-threshold accommodation service, and have since grown. Novas now has 20 operations in the Limerick County, Clare, Tipperary, Kerry, Cork and Dublin. They support people through Housing, Health and Recovery, and as there are typically complex reasons behind someone’s homeless situation, their aim is to provide holistic, long-term solutions. Novas also won the “Best Not For Profit” award at the Limerick Chamber Regional Business Awards.

Una Burns, Head of Policy and Communications at Novas spoke about the significant impact that the public have on the organisation, “Oh it’s incredibly important! We’re really fortunate that the people here in Limerick get behind so many of the events for Novas, like this International Women’s Day Afternoon Tea! We’re so grateful for the Savoy Hotel for hosting this wonderful event, and we hope that lots of people will come along and enjoy the day, and all the proceeds for the event will be going towards our services here in the city.” 

Ruth Vaughan, Group Sales Manager at The Savoy, explained why the Savoy decided to get involved with Novas and host their Sparkling Afternoon Tea. 

“It was a result of the Chamber Awards, as it highlighted the wonderful work that Novas do. It then prompted me to contact Eileen Whelan, Head of HR and Legal at Novas, to ask if they would like to arrange a fundraiser. Novas was the recipient of Best Not for Profit Award at the recent Limerick Chamber of Commerce Awards, and we are thrilled to be able to support them in the wonderful work they do for Limerick & the Midwest in providing lasting solutions to homelessness.”

“We are delighted to partner with Novas, in hosting Sparkling Afternoon Tea at The Savoy Hotel to celebrate International Women’s Day. We look forward to welcoming ladies to The Savoy Hotel on March 8”, Ruth added.
