The Limerick Sports Partnership (LSP) with support of Irish Olympians launch 25k Euro Club Community scheme to aid local clubs. The once-off €25,000 grant scheme aims to encourage local sports clubs and community groups to increase participation in sporting activities throughout Limerick.

The Limerick Sports Partnership is an inter-agency and multi-sector organisation established as a limited company with representatives from all the main statutory, community and voluntary fora represented on a dedicated Board of Directors. The LSP is based in UL Sport Arena at the University of Limerick.  This location provides us with access to a weekly footfall of 12-15,000 people while also creating links and relationships from grassroots, education and professional sport.

Supported by Sport Ireland, the Sports Club/ Community Links Grants Scheme will see funding being distributed to clubs to further develop links with the community in which they are based.

LSP Coordinator Phelim Macken said: “The aim of the Sports Partnership is to increase participation in sport and it is envisaged that all projects funded under this scheme will help to do just that, particularly in disadvantaged sectors of the population.”

“The purpose of this scheme is to encourage local sports clubs to develop links with schools and community groups and to jointly develop a programme or event that will help to attract members of the community to take part in sport and physical activity.  This will not only help to improve the overall health of local communities but will also help to attract new members to participating sports clubs,” he added.

Present at the event were Sinead Jennings, rower and Thomas Barr, track athlete, the Rio 2016 Olympians launched 25k euro Club Community Links grant scheme.

Completed and signed application forms should be returned to Limerick Sports Partnership, UL Sport Arena, University of Limerick, Limerick, before 4pm on Friday 04 November 2016.
