Opera Workshop works continuously to promote and support the development of singers and pianists at all stages of their careers. This weekend is ideal for aspiring young opera singers, emerging vocal artists, collaborative pianists and experienced opera professionals. We also welcome keen amateurs for who singing is the passion, if not the regular 9 to 5. Pianists interested in the collaborative element of working with singers are also welcome to apply. If performing is not your thing, but you’d love to see a little of the behind the scenes work, a small number of audience places are also available. Taking place at The Redemptorist Centre of Music, this is a rare opportunity for singers to work with three such experienced opera artists over one weekend.
Orla Boylan is one of Ireland’s finest sopranos who has performed leading roles all over the world from Northern Ireland to New Zealand most recently playing the role of Mother in Missy Mazzoli’s Breaking the Waves at the Adelaide Festival, Jenny Mark in the UK premiere of Johnathan Dove’s Marx in London and with Scottish Opera in her role debut as Emily Marty in Janaček’s Makropulos Case.
Limerick’s own, Owen Gilhooly-Miles is a performer who is a regular at concerts here at home and on the opera stages of many well renown companies including Covent Garden, Opera North, Irish National Opera, Wexford Festival and Operawerkstatt Wien. In high demand as a vocal tutor, Owen’s students work professionally across Ireland, the UK and Europe and have joined Young Artist Programmes such as Zurich International Opera Studio, Irish National Opera Studio, Wexford Opera Factory, Genesis 16, Accademia dell Opera Italiana, Britten Pears Young Artist Programme & the Heidelberger Frühling Liedzentrum.

Also a proud Limerick native, Shirley Keane set up Opera Workshop in 2017, developing from a small start-up to a company that regularly produces new opera productions and community projects in Limerick. A writer and director, Shirley has taught acting and worked with singers at The Guldhall School of Music, London, Accademia Solti te Kanawa Tuscany and Glyndebourne Opera.
