The community of Foynes is being invited to come together for a special afternoon and evening of remembrance, light and togetherness as Our Community Illuminates for Mike Liston takes place on Sunday, 28th December at 3 pm in Foynes Community Centre.

This meaningful event is being held in loving memory of Mike Liston, a man fondly remembered for his warmth, kindness and strong connection to his community. Family, friends and neighbours will gather to celebrate Mike’s life in a way that reflects his spirit — inclusive, uplifting and firmly rooted in community.

Participants of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend and take part in a unique illuminated walk from the community centre to a lap around the GAA pitch and back to the community centre. Attendees are invited to bring their imagination, lights and decorate themselves, along with bikes, scooters, buggies, wheelchairs and go-karts, creating a colourful and moving display as the group makes its way down the main street and around the pitch before returning to the Community Centre.

Participants of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend and take part in a unique illuminated walk from the community centre to a lap around the GAA pitch and back.

The event is also a fundraiser for a local chairty. 100% of all donations raised will go directly to the Brothers of Charity in Foynes, supporting the vital services they provide. For those unable to attend on the day, donations can also be made online via iDonate.

Following the walk, refreshments will be served in Foynes Community Centre, providing an opportunity for people to gather, share memories and enjoy the sense of connection that has long defined the town. Volunteers are currently being sought to assist with stewarding, serving teas and coffees on the day.

Organisers hope the event will capture the strong community spirit Mike was known for, bringing people together during the festive season to honour his memory in a positive and meaningful way.

All are welcome to attend, whether to take part in the walk, volunteer, donate or simply show support. Attendees are encouraged to bring their imagination, their lights, their warmth and their memories.
