Reopening of Pallaskenry Garda Station, County Limerick, Thursday 16th January 2025
The Pallaskenry Garda Station reopened last Friday 10th January following a 10-month refurbishment project. The Office of Public Works commenced modernisation on the 15th of April 2024.
During the renovations, the Garda working out of the Garda Station was temporarily based at Askeaton Garda Station. Garda Alan O’Donnnell is now back serving his local community.
Thanks to the improvements, the station is now wheelchair accessible as a new ramp has been installed. Accessibility for people with hearing impairments has also been improved with microphones being installed in the public office.
The refurbished station is now more energy efficient due to a new air to water heating system powered by solar panels, as well as new windows, doors, LED lights and external insulation. An electric vehicle charging point will also be available.
The modernisation of the Garda Station falls in line with the Modernisation and Renewal Programme launched by An Garda Síochána to ensure that the organization can meet present and future policing and security challenges, and to provide supports for Gardaí to enable them to work effectively in delivering the national policing and security service.
Also in Limerick, site mobilisation works have begun for the construction of a new 3-storey building on the site of the former Newcastle West Garda Station to provide a new Garda District Headquarters in Limerick.
The Newcastle West Headquarters is one of many projects being delivered under a comprehensive programme to modernise Garda buildings.
