Parkinsons Mid-West

The Parkinsons Association of Ireland is a nationwide charity, offering support, information and advice to people with Parkinson’s disease, and their families and friends. The Parkinson’s Association of Ireland aim’s to help people with Parkinson’s their families and carers, health professionals and other people by offering support and information on any aspect of living with Parkinson’s.  Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological disorder, which so far cannot be cured. Parkinson’s Association of Ireland was established  in 1987.

Parkinson’s Association of Ireland has branches throughout the country and they are growing rapidly in recent years. The branches are a great way for people with Parkinson’s and their families to meet with each other and discuss the various problems related with Parkinson’s disease. Branches have a vital role in organizing information for onward transmission to the National Office which in turn aids the association in their negotiations with the HSE and Government for services and facilities for the services to people and their families with Parkinson’s. Branches help arrange a wide range of activities that support people with Parkinson’s and their families  such as Yoga classes, outings and information meetings.

The Parkinson’s Association of Ireland receives no funding from the Irish State and relies heavily on fundraising events to fund the association. One of the key fundraising events in the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland’s calendar is the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon, as many women run it on their behalf. Also, they have other fundraisers such as cycle rides, jumping from planes, climbing mountains or through simple bucket collections or coffee mornings.
