Parteen National School proudly raised four flags this morning, marking a trio of national school awards—the Active School Flag, Amber Flag, and Bí Cineálta Flag—alongside their beloved County Clare flag in a joyful celebration of community, wellbeing, and school spirit.

The ceremony, held on the school grounds, was attended by staff, students, families, and special guest Craig Casey, Munster and Ireland rugby star and captain of this summer’s Irish squad. Craig spoke to pupils about teamwork, resilience and the power of kindness, encouraging them to “keep trying, keep moving, and most importantly, enjoy themselves.”

Parteen’s school choir opened the event with a moving performance of True Colours, setting a tone of authenticity and inclusion that ran throughout the morning. Pupils from 3rd to 6th Class shared heartfelt reflections on what each flag means to them—emphasising the school’s commitment to physical activity, emotional wellbeing, and creating a culture of kindness and respect.

Principal Ms Miriam Smyth also took the opportunity to present silver medals to the school’s basketball team, who made a stunning debut at the Marion Keane Basketball Tournament, reaching the final against over 50 schools. The team was led by a passionate pupil who had long championed the introduction of basketball at Parteen.

“We’re extremely proud of the achievements these flags represent,” said Ms Smyth. “They reflect the values we live by in Parteen—supporting each other, staying active, being kind, and taking pride in our county and culture. To have Craig Casey here to help us celebrate made it even more special.”

The event concluded with the raising of the four flags and a surprise confetti cannon finale—much to the delight of the children, who cheered under a sky of blue and yellow in honour of County Clare.

Parteen NS continues to lead by example in embedding wellbeing, inclusion, and positive school culture into everyday life, and today’s celebration was a shining example of that commitment in action.
