The people from Patrickswell village’s work for the past few years and especially in the past few months has paid off with Limerick City and County Council granting permission for a new community centre to be built in Patrickswell, Limerick.

The new purpose-built structure in Main Street will consist of a multi-purpose community hall that can fit up to 220 people, meeting rooms and office areas. On top of this, there will be a community cafe and coffee shop, with a new landscaped civic space at the front of the building.

PJ O’Grady, PRO of Patrickswell Community Council said, “The development of the Patrickswell Community Centre will give enormous hope to the people of Patrickswell and the wider area. The hub will provide a place for all our proud community to meet and come together. It will facilitate the provision of important community services to the wider Parish including that of providing medical services”.

The planning permission has been welcomed by local Fine Gael councillors Dan McSweeney and Daniel Butler.

Dan Mc Sweeney said, “I have always worked in the best interest of our community and to date have secured €250,000 from Limerick City and County Council for this project. I know the Community of Patrickswell will work together to support this much-needed Community Centre”.

Dan Mc Sweeney believes that Patrickswell has been overlooked for the last number of years by Limerick City and County Council and that this is a welcomed and positive development for Patrickswell.

The community centre will enable the community to be able to access more funding from other streams in the future.

Despite the planning consent, there had been opposition from some quarters, with five committee members from the Patrickswell Community Council lodging an objection.
