Work begins on Village Renewal Scheme in Patrickswell
Work has begun on transforming the village of Patrickswell.
The Patrickswell village renewal scheme is focused along Main Street and consists of the upgrade of the public realm and remodelling of the layout to improve traffic management.

It will deliver an urban layout for the village in keeping with the needs of those who live, work in, and visit Patrickswell.
Funding of €94,350 has been received from the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The proposed works under this contract is Phase 1 of the overall village renewal scheme and consists of the reconstruction of 300m of urban roadworks along the R526 Main Street, commencing near the Marian Grotto, and finishing close to the Applegreen Service Station.
The works comprise of:
- road realignment including the narrowing of the carriageway widths
- reconstruction of newer wider footpaths in decorative brick paving, with the provision of orderly roadside parking areas
- landscaped build-outs
- the improvement of junctions along the route to provide consistent pedestrian facilities including the construction of a signalised Pedestrian Crossing, and several uncontrolled crossings
- new LED low energy street lighting, grounding of overhead power and telecommunications cables, provision of new ESB ducting, air ducting, spare telecommunications ducting, modifications to surface water drainage
- new street furniture (litter bins, seating, cycle stands and bollards)
- two new bus shelters, road resurfacing, coloured road surfacing, new traffic signs and road markings
Patrickswell town is a service centre for its own community and the hinterland. The works will improve the public realm and provide a safe walking environment for pedestrians and therefore, the main street will become more attractive for residents, businesses and tourists.
Mayor of the Metropolitan District of Limerick Cllr Sean Lynch has welcomed the works: “Patrickswell has great potential because of its close proximity to Limerick City and to Adare and having the Racecourse and being the gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way. Now that the Village Renewal Scheme has commenced, not alone will it enhance the village but will bring business, tourism and improve the infrastructure to the region. Hopefully, it will be the start of many good projects for the local area.”
The total area of the works is approximately 7,100 square metres, including 3,665 square metres of road surfacing. Coir Infrastructure Limited has been awarded the works contract which is expected to last four months.
