Patterns Dance Collective are holding an event called ‘The Essence of Love’ on February 14, Valentines Night at the Daghdha Dance space at Johns Square from 7.30pm until 9.30pm and audiences are invited to sit back and relax in a romantic atmosphere for an evening of dance with live performances from dance artists accompanied by live music.  The event is FREE and audiences are welcome to come and go as they please. Their latest dance films ‘Patterns Dance Collective’ and ‘Transit Patterns’ will be screened on the night. All live dance pieces and dance films are up to 5 minutes in length with very uncomplicated sets and technical requirements Patterns Dance Collective consists of contemporary dance artists with intellectual disabilities who are service users from the Daughters of Charity (DOC) Limerick based centres. The dance group has enjoyed a long and successful history of performing locally, nationally and internationally under the direction of Angie Smalis. They create dance pieces that allow audiences to observe, reflect and enjoy the recurring movements, events and ideas of Contemporary Dance. The DOC were the first to establish day services in Limerick and they offer a Person Centred Approach to provide individually tailored supports and create opportunities that allow each service user to reach their full potential and integrate into their community. For more information please see www.doc.ie or www.facebook.com/PatternsDanceCollective.

He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
