PAUL Partnership celebrated Local Development Week 2025 by hosting their flagship event, “Summer in the City” in Limerick’s People’s Park this Thursday, May 15.
The Summer in the city event showcased a wide range of community-based services and programmes available in Limerick City Centre while celebrating social inclusion, health, wellbeing, and making connections.
Jennifer Moroney Ward, CEO of PAUL Partnership, explained the purpose behind the week-long celebration, telling I Love Limerick, “ This week we have 49 local development companies all around Ireland, hosting lots of different events across social inclusion, social enterprise, climate action, family support, and employment services support.
“What we’re doing here today in the People’s Park, which is a stunning civic space that we have right in the heart of the city and right beside our offices here, is an event that’s going to showcase what the Partnership does here in the city centre.”
The day’s activities included parent and toddler events from the ABC Start Right Programme, tai chi and yoga sessions, singing workshops, and family-friendly activities aimed at encouraging interaction and wellbeing.
“This year, we have a real focus on the city centre. We’ve worked in neighbourhoods all around the city centre for over 20 years, but this year we’re putting a focus on creating a sense of community here in the city centre,” said the PAUL Partnership CEO.
The ABC Start Right Programme, funded by Tusla, offers early years support for young children and their families delivered by a multidisciplinary team. This initiative is one of many led by PAUL Partnership to support positive parenting and stronger community ties.
Michelle Hannan, Programme Manager, explained, “Today is an event we’re having as part of Local Development Week, and it’s called Summer in the City, it’s about engaging people living in the city centre to come to the park today to find out about the work of PAUL Partnership but also take part in some fun activities like tai chi and yoga, and there’s some singing workshops it’s about bringing people together.”

The event also supported the national “Hello, How Are You?” mental health campaign in partnership with Mental Health Ireland. “Mental health and wellbeing are part of what we do in the Partnership,” said Michelle Hannon, adding, “We work closely with other organisations, such as Mental Health Ireland, and we’re supporting them with their campaign today as well.”
“As part of Mental Health Week, that’s the ‘Hello, how are you?’ Campaign. And it’s about linking with people that might live close to you and building that connection with other people in the city centre.”
PAUL Partnership also highlighted its ongoing health and community services delivered through the HSE’s Sláintecare Healthy Communities initiative. These include Social Prescribing, the Healthy Food Made Easy programme, and the We Can Quit smoking cessation service—all free to the public and running year-round.
As the local development company for Limerick City, the Partnership operates a broad range of initiatives, from employment services such as the Midwest Local Area Employment Service, TUS, Community Employment, and the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) to health and family support programmes such as Slaintecare Healthy Communities and ABC Start Right. These initiatives all aim to reduce inequality and empower individuals to access opportunities that support a positive, healthy and socially connected life in Limerick City.
