Limerick man Paul Ryan is taking on the personal challenge of running five half marathons this May to help raise funds for Milford Care Centre, beginning with the Regeneron Great Limerick Run on Sunday, May 3

Announcing his goal, Paul said, “This May, I’m taking on a personal and meaningful challenge: running five half marathons in one month to raise funds for Milford Care Centre, a place that means so much to me and my family. My journey begins with the Great Limerick Run on May 3rd, the first step in what will be a physically demanding but deeply worthwhile series of races.”

In previous years, Paul has taken on challenges to support Milford, in 2025 he raised €3,300 for the charity. Speaking about his motivation for supporting Milford Care Centre through the challenge, Paul said his desire to give back is a truly personal experience.

In September 2024, Paul’s aunt passed away at Milford Care Centre, and the Limerick man said, “During an incredibly difficult time, the staff there provided not only medical support but also compassion, dignity, and comfort to her and to all of us who loved her. Their work goes far beyond healthcare—it brings peace and humanity to families when they need it most.”

Taking on five half marathons in May will allow Paul to honour his aunt’s memory while supporting the “incredible services Milford continues to provide”.

Paul previously ran 10km per day in memory of his friend, Mikey

Paul said, “Each race represents a step toward giving back to a centre that gives so much to others every single day. While the challenge will test me physically and mentally, it feels small in comparison to the strength shown by patients and families in Milford’s care.

“Starting with the Great Limerick Run, I’ll be pushing myself across multiple events throughout the month, staying focused on the purpose behind every mile. There will be early mornings, tired legs, and moments where motivation dips—but knowing why I started will keep me going.”

Milford Care Centre is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation and registered charity. It was first established by the Little Company of Mary Sisters in 1928 and now provides Specialist Palliative Care and Older Persons Services in the Mid West. Its Board of Directors and Management Team oversees its service delivery and fundraising activities.

Paul said, “This fundraiser is about more than running. It’s about recognising the importance of palliative care, supporting those who provide it, and ensuring that others can continue to receive the same level of care and compassion that my aunt did. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward helping Milford Care Centre continue its vital work.

“If you’re able to support in any way—whether through a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or simply offering encouragement—it would mean a great deal. Together, we can make a difference and support a place that has already meant so much to so many families.”
