Peter Furey Doodle 4 Google National Finalist
Peter Furey is a pupil at Ardscoil Rís North Circular Rd County Limerick who has reached the national Finals of this years ‘Doodle 4 Google’ art competition. Peter is the only Limerick finalist in the Group 5 category of this year’s competition.
Out of 4,200 applicants, Peter Furey is one of 75 finalists overall and one of 15 finalists in the group 5 category. Peter’s doodle features a range of different homes and shelters forming the Google homepage. Peter’s doodle is entitled “If I could create anything, it would be a home for everyone”. Peter described his inspiration for the doodle and why he chose this design stating “In my opinion, no one should not have a place to feel safe. My doodle shows many types of houses/shelters to live and the silhouette of travelling people shows how homelessness and war persecution is a huge burden on our society.”
This year’s ‘Doodle 4 Google’ asked its applicants for the most creative drawing under the theme ‘if i were to create anything’. The winning ‘Doodle 4 Google’ will feature on the Google Ireland homepage for 24 hours in April. Millions of people will have the opportunity to see it, and understand what creativity & innovation means to young artists today. One talented artist will see his or her artwork on the Google Ireland homepage, receive a €5,000 college scholarship and a €10,000 technology grant for his or her school as well as a Chromebook for themselves and their teacher.
Other Limerick applicants who have reached the final include Siluni Sihansa of Milford Grange National School, Coláiste Nano Nagle’s Abbey O’Keeffe and Tess Lim. The winners will be decided by public vote which is currently ongoing from Tuesday, February 7 until Friday, July 21.
