This year, they are asking the public to support the appeal by recognising #ThePersonWho supported and encouraged them.

Whether it’s a parent, educator, team leader or sports coach, most of us have someone who stood up and made a real impact on our lives.

For the people Peter McVerry Trust works with every year, their wonderful staff provides the support, encouragement, advice, and care to help them move on. They ensure that the individuals they work with can start to leave homelessness behind, and look to their future.

Peter McVerry Trust Opening Doors

Annual Opening Doors appeal, which takes place this week to coincide with World Homeless Day on 10th October.

With over 10,000 people in Ireland currently experiencing homelessness, they hope this will spark a conversation around the importance of a caring society for everyone and the real impact that help and support from others can have on all our lives.

Peter McVerry Trust is currently active across 21 counties, including Limerick, and supports 1,700 people each night across its homeless and housing services.

This year, the social sharing campaign will call out these positive influences, and throughout the appeal,  will share stories from those who they have worked with and supported into housing.

For example, Deirdre is living in her own home in Limerick with support from their staff.

Deirdre said,  “The staff are constantly thinking about me. They will ring if I need anything. They will come to me if I need anything. They are great.”

They are asking the public to share their own story on social about #ThePersonWho has made an impact on their life.
