RTÉ has announced Limerick journalist, Petula Martyn, will be the new Correspondent for the Mid West Region

Petula Martyn has been announced as the new Mid West Correspondent for RTÉ with the Limerick journalist saying she is “delighted” to take up the role which will see her cover news developments across Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary on the RTÉ News platforms.
The news comes following the announcement in April, 2025 that reporter Cathy Halloran was retiring following a career which spanned 38 years, closing the door on a stellar career where the veteran journalist became known for her compassionate reporting.
Having joined RTÉ in 2011, Petula Martyn has worked as a journalist across various media platforms, having worked in television, radio, and covering news online. Petula is currently a familiar voice on RTÉ Radio 1, where she presents business news on Morning Ireland, the One O’Clock Show, and Drivetime.
Locally, Petula has reported on Limerick All-Ireland successes, which included ‘Limerick: Pure Proud’, an RTÉ Radio One documentary capturing the joy and pride of the Treaty County and its love for sports. The journalist started her career in Limerick, reporting for Limerick’s Live 95FM and writing with the Limerick Leader.

Commenting on her new role, Petula said, “Having grown up, studied, and started my journalism career in the region, I am delighted to return to take up the role of Mid West Correspondent.
“I’m looking forward to covering the stories that matter to the people of Limerick, Clare and north Tipperary, including challenges in healthcare, housing, infrastructure, as well as cultural events and no doubt, sporting triumphs.
“I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to continue the great work that Cathy Halloran did for over 30 years.
“I care deeply about this region and its people, and I’m committed to telling their stories with integrity and dedication, as a consistent and trusted voice for RTÉ News.”
