Pieta House calls on golf clubs throughout Munster to join the Munster Golf Challenge for suicide prevention

This summer will see the first Pieta House Munster Golf Challenge taking place in a host of golf clubs throughout Munster including Adare Manor, Ballybunion, Doonbeg, Roscrea, Rathbane and Kilkee. Pieta House is calling on all Munster golf clubs to sign up for the challenge and help raise funds for suicide prevention – there is still time to get involved. Each club will host a qualifying competition and the winners of these will go forward to play in the final at Adare Manor and Golf Resort on 15th September with a trip to the 2014 British Open in Royal Liverpool Golf Club up for grabs for the overall winner. Offering players an opportunity to enjoy a great day’s golfing while supporting Pieta House and its expanding support network, the first annual Pieta House Munster Golf Challenge promises to be an event not to be missed.

Pieta House is a suicide and self-harm crisis centre providing a professional, face to face, free of charge therapeutic service for people in the acute stages of distress. The primary aim of Pieta House is to reduce suicide by helping people get through that critical phase when suicide becomes a plan rather than just an idea. Pieta House opened its doors in Lucan, Co. Dublin in January 2006. Since its foundation, Pieta House has grown to almost 80 therapists and staff who have seen and helped over 8,000 people to date. The unique clinically-based model developed by Pieta House is used across six centres in Dublin, Limerick and Roscrea with further centres opening this year in Cork, Castleisland and Tuam. More than 80% of Pieta House’s income comes from fundraising events.

For further information on dates and participating clubs, please contact Kieran O’Brien in Pieta Mid-West on 061-484444 or [email protected]. Kieran is also accepting applications from other Munster golf clubs that wish to get involved.
