Pinergy teams with PMI to provide Sustainable Solutions for Limerick Students

Pinergy, the smart energy provider, is delighted to support Property Management Ireland (PMI), specifically its student accommodation business, in both its pursuit to become more sustainable and in teaching students to form habits around sustainability. PMI’s ambition to be an industry leader in managing properties that support sustainable living is now made all the more possible with the announcement of 100% green energy from Pinergy.

PMI has been offering student accommodation services for over 18 years, with 7 student villages in Limerick city housing over 1800 students.

PMI was also one of Pinergy’s first ever clients. Commenting on PMI’s commitment to sustainable living and their long-standing partnership with Pinergy, Jack Keane, Managing Director at PMI said, “When a student moves into PMI accommodation, it’s often the first time that they have lived away from home. At PMI, we feel that we have a huge responsibility to educate them on how to run a home, from paying bills to making sure they act in a sustainable way. Already, we have a range of exciting initiatives underway and more planned for 2020 that will help our properties to be more sustainable. We are also delighted to announce that our electricity from Pinergy is 100% green, further enhancing our own sustainability programme.”

In the past, PMI has implemented a number of green initiatives in cooperation with Pinergy. Students have been provided with instructions on how best to configure their heating to ensure that the apartments are heated at times when they are in the apartment rather than heated during the day while they are out at college. PMI has also availed of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) grant aid with cavity wall and attic insulation completed in Cratloe Village in 2018. With the help of the SEAI grant, Cratloe Village was able to reduce their Building Energy Rating (BER) from E1 to C1 and bottle banks have been installed at each student village. Other measures have included the provision of a shuttle bus for students to reduce car usage in both Cratloewood and Thomond Village.

Now, with Pinergy’s move to 100% green energy, as well as advances in Pinergy’s smart meter technology, PMI is delighted at the opportunity to implement an array of further green offerings. Planned initiatives for 2020 and beyond include recalibrating timeclocks in each apartment at the beginning of the academic year to ensure they are properly set. This change would allow students to avail of Pinergy’s Economy Rate Tariff (night rate) to reduce energy consumption. PMI also plans to continue to promote energy conservation by providing regular usage reports to students and then provide a prize each semester for the apartment with the most economical usage. For students or visitors who’ve made the move to electric vehicles, PMI plans to install a number of electric vehicle points in all villages in conjunction with Pinergy Drive.

PMI was established by businessman, Jack Keane in 2001. Since then they have gone on to become one of the Mid-West’s largest licensed property management and lettings agency with a large portfolio of managed properties. Today, the company provides a broad range of specialist property services including residential and commercial lettings, apartment block management and student accommodation management and lettings.
