In seven Years the Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk has raised over €440,000 for Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society, with €30,000 being raised in 2016. It has been a phenomenal event, turning the Shannon-side towns of Killaloe & Ballina pink for a week every summer.

“The Killaloe Committee have all been blown away by just how much the Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk was taken into your hearts”, said Chairperson, Carmell de Mello.

We really want to give massive thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk over the years. There has been incredible support from our amazing sponsors, especially The Lakeside Hotel and Eoin Little & his team, (without whom the day would not be able to take place and become the crème de la crème of 10ks that it is!).  Also, the generosity of Technopath, Carey Glass, Spin South West, Specsavers, Shaws Department Stores, Scoops, Mr Binman, Munster Water, UL Sport, Fionnuisce, and Queally’s Supervalu, along with much more from Killaloe Ballina, Scarriff, Nenagh and Limerick. Also, huge thanks must go to our wonderful Ambassadors, Barbara McMahon and Niamh Briggs.

Since the very first Pink Ribbon Walk Fundraiser in 2009, the local support from every business in our very special towns has been phenomenal. Some even painted their businesses pink for the day!

We thank each and every one of you who walked, ran, volunteered, sponsored a friend, fund-raised, supported along the route and generally contributed to making the Killaloe Pink Ribbon such a success.

Even though the walk might be taking a rest in 2017, if you feel strongly and passionate about helping in the battle against breast cancer you can still fundraise for Action Breast Cancer and the Irish Cancer Society.

A local teacher, Chris Stoodley, recently organised the Eclectic PINKNIC at Flanagans on the Lake in Ballina Killaloe. It was a day-long festival of music and family entertainment to launch his song ‘Put on your Pink Ribbon’ by Boho, feat. The Gúnas & Paul Sheeran. If it gets 1000 downloads it will make the charts and could be the only charity single to reach the charts outside Christmas.   All proceeds go to Pink Ribbon Walks and the Irish Cancer Society. Would you like to be part of a future Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk? Do you have time to spare? Would you like to volunteer any skills you might have and be part of this very special event?  Please get in touch. A Pink Ribbon Walk is a beautiful thing to be part of and we would love to see it happening in Killaloe again. We invite you to get in touch at [email protected] if you would like to be on board and make Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk happen in 2018.
