This is the 7th year that Limerick will host an annual Polish Arts Festival starting on Thursday September 19 and running until Saturday October 5. The official launch had His Excellency Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Marcin Nawrot serving the honors of opening it.

This year’s Festival highlights include Steampunk Lady from Lutrek Theatre that will enchant us on the Culture Night, classical piano concert of a famous Polish composer Marcin Dominik Głuch with music, theatre, decoupage & monster making workshops for children and adults, lectures, film shows, performances & poetry reading. The core of the Festival is the art exhibition of paintings, sculpture, ceramics, textiles and photography of Polish artists creating in Ireland, which is a kind of a collage of Polish arts as such. Along with that there is a unique opportunity to see an exhibition from Poland on “Children of Janusz Korczak” – renowned Polish pediatrician and children’s writer who established a Jewish orphanage in Warsaw that was moved to the ghetto when the Germans occupied Poland in 1939. Korczak joined his children in the ghetto and faced deportation with nearly 200 of them to Treblinka where they were all put to death.

A very special event will take place on Saturday October 5 where Supertonic Orchestra, performing traditional Polish Folk music with the elements of klezmer, jazz, and Balkan music style will take us on a route to the world of ethnic sounds. Woman of the Year 2013 in UK Agnieszka Kołek, a founder of an Art for Freedom Festival will be a special quest before the concert.

Young children will also have a chance to present their achievements in the photography  competition on Saturday September 28 in the George Boutique Hotel to follow with a film show “War Photographer”. Justyna Cwojdzinska, a founder of the Festival says “Its incredible to have the 7th edition of the PAF in Limerick this year. We are growing and getting stronger year by year offering more to the people of Limerick, inviting everybody to take part in the two week celebration of culture, art and beautiful people.”
