Polish Arts Festival 2018 returns with inspiring events for Limerick

The Polish Arts Festival 2018 returns with two weeks of inspiring events running from September 20 to October 6. Venues are varied from the Hunt Museum to Narrative 4 and Belltable.

The Polish Arts Festival (PAF) has been celebrating 12 years in Limerick and the theme for this year is “Dialog”. The festival aims to promote the different faces of the Pole abroad as a worker, an artist, a member of the local community and a contributor to European cultural heritage.

There are many highlights to enjoy throughout the Polish Arts Festival 2018 including  Saturday, September 29 at 6 pm at the Belltable where you can enjoy ‘From Venus to Nameless’ which promises to be a fantastic night of dance, music, and theatre with Project Venus dancers and performers. The festival will close at 3.30pm on Saturday, October 6 at the ELI – English Language Institute with Warsztat, Choreoterapii and Ewa Kotula where guests are invited to dance to the sounds of your heart.

Embracing the integration of the Polish contingent into Limerick, the festival offers a rich feast of Polish/Slavic culture. It also serves to create awareness of the culture within Ireland and amongst other nationalities. Celebrating the similarities and diversities of the people of Limerick, the festival is a platform for the collaboration and fusion of different groups and ethnicities.

One of the highlights for the Polish Arts Festival 2018 will be their project ‘From Venus to Nameless’.  “The theatre piece From ‘Venus to Nameless’ is a statement about the possibility of crossing the boundaries of understanding and comprehending the essence of participating in the ritual of life. The power of Shakespeare’s word is interrupted by a simple and painful commandment to adapt to the conditions here and now,” said Justyna Cwojdzińska said about the show.

The mission of the Polish Arts Festival 2018 is to encourage the individual to experience and learn something new, to open their eyes to unknown historical and cultural facts, and to share in the joy of the Polish/Slavic way of life. In a traditional, warm and welcoming setting, children, teenagers, adults, artists and spectators can enjoy the best of music, theatre and fine arts.

In 2007, Justyna Cwojdzinska, a member of the Irish-Polish Cultural and Business Association in Limerick, was inspired to arrange an exhibition of the work of local Polish artists. Collaborating with fellow-Poles Magdalena Wronska-Sudol and Natalia Czarnecka-Diling, the ladies undertook the project with great passion and enthusiasm. Synergising their experience in events, art, sculpture, professional translation and cultural animation, the Polish Art Festival was founded.

The Polish Art Festival attracts visitors from Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Ennis, Galway and all around Ireland.
