Polish Arts Festival returns to Limerick from September 16-19

Polish Arts Festival returns to Limerick from September 16-19 

Celebrating their 14th  year in Limerick, Polish Arts Festival presents exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, podcasts, audio stories for children and workshops themed “Looking Up and Looking Out” running from September 16 to September 19 in The Hunt Museum, Lime Tree Theatre & Belltable and online. 

The co-artistic directors of the festival, Justyna Cwojdzińska and Aleksandra Rosiak,  have curated a wonderful programme of events that celebrates the Lem Centenary  (100th Birthday Anniversary of Stanisław Lem, a sci-fi author, father of Solaris). You can listen to bilingual podcasts about Lem’s work and children can enjoy audio stories directed by Kamila Dydyna, performed by Georgina Miller and Justyna Cwojdzińska from September 16 – October 15. The programme includes a family screening of animations for children based on Lem’s stories which will be presented in the Belltable and an online presentation of animations for adults.

Enjoy an exhibition of paintings by Polish artist Adriana Laube in The Hunt Museum Café and the Belltable foyer, and join us for a family painting workshop with Lesley Ann Hurley in The Hunt Museum Gardens. Culture Night will see a concert by Sandra Maria & Emoji in the Belltable at 6 pm.

The Belltable cinema will host a screening of I Never Cry dir. by Piotr Domalewski. Take part in dance, voice and music workshops run by Anna Banko –Szumacher, Przemysław Łozowski, Daniel Flannagan, Anna & Raymond Scanlan. Meet the novelist Darragh Martin and his Future Popes of Ireland. Full programme of events available at www.polishartsfestival.ie 

Aleksandra Rosiak, who has joined the Festival’s team in 2021 as co-artistic director said “Polish Arts Festival’s vision is very close to my heart as a curator and venue programmer, and  I am thrilled to join the festival’s team on the journey to support and to showcase the outstanding potential of artistic talent that exists within Polish and Irish communities.”  

Justyna Cwojdzińska, a founder of the Polish Arts Festival said, “After over a year in the pandemic reality we are delighted to welcome our audience back for in-person experience. We missed you so much and we look at the bright side of life and show that together we can do much more regardless of nationality, social and cultural background, beliefs or disbeliefs. Join us this year, maybe for the first time, and let’s celebrate the community spirit in Limerick.”

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
