Mary Immaculate College (MIC) has announced the appointment of Professor Jane Stadler as the new Dean of Arts

Professor Jane Stadler joins MIC as the new Dean of Arts from the University of New England, Australia, where she served as Dean of Graduate Research. She brings more than two decades of academic leadership, teaching and research excellence in media and cultural studies, having held senior leadership roles across a number of leading Australian universities.

Her previous appointments include Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) and Chair of Media and Communication at Swinburne University of Technology, Head of School (Communication) at Queensland University of Technology, and Director of Research Higher Degrees at the University of Queensland, where she spent eleven years overseeing doctoral education and research development. She also served on the Academic Advisory Board of the Queensland Human Rights Commission.

An internationally recognised scholar in film, media and philosophy, Prof. Stadler has published extensively, including four authored books, more than 50 peer-reviewed research papers, and numerous edited collections. Her research has attracted competitive funding from bodies including the Australian Research Council, while her international profile includes visiting professorships at the University of California, Berkeley and Hong Kong Baptist University, alongside more than 30 keynote conference addresses.

Prof. Stadler is also an award-winning educator, having received five university teaching awards and the Australian Learning and Teaching Council National Award for Teaching Excellence, the highest national honour for university teaching in Australia.

Speaking on her appointment, Professor Stadler said, “I am delighted to be joining MIC and very much look forward to becoming part of a vibrant academic community with such a strong commitment to teaching, research and student success. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to serve as Dean of Arts. I am excited to work with colleagues and students across the Faculty of Arts as we continue to support innovation, creativity and academic opportunity.”

Prof. Stadler commenced her role as Dean of Arts on Tuesday, 2 June. MIC is a multi-campus institution with more than 5,000 students and offers 50+ undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Education and Liberal Arts.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
