Railway Children to arrive at King Johns Castle

The Railway Children, a Chapterhouse Theatre Company open-air production, takes place in King Johns Castle this August 1 at 4.30pm, with gates opening at 3.30pm.

The performance runs from June 16 to September 2 and comes as part of the Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s open-air Garden Theatre Tour of UK and Ireland 2016.

The Railway Children, the award-winning adapted E. Nesbit novel by Laura Turner, is an unforgettable and heart-warming story of adventure and family set in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside.

The lives of three children are changed forever by the mysterious disappearance of their father. Finding a new home in a beautiful but isolated village the children make new friends and discover the wonders of the Yorkshire hills and the railway lines scattered throughout them. E. Nesbit’s classic story has delighted adults and children alike for generations and is now brought to life for new audiences in this wonderful production presented in some of the UK and Ireland’s most beautiful open-air venues. With stunning period costume, traditional music and songs and a whole host of unforgettable characters, The Railway Children is a treat for all the family, perfect for a summer evening’s entertainment.

“The Railway Children has been a delight to adapt, filled with so many memorable moments of courage, heroism, love and friendship. It’s a beautiful story of the strength we all have inside ourselves, set amidst the green and fertile countryside of the rolling Yorkshire hills, reminding us that a little bit of faith, love and trust is sometimes all you need”, says writer Laura Turner.

The Railway Children is specially produced for audiences this summer. It is the latest offering in a newly cultivated tradition by Chapterhouse in producing fun family shows that tell the stories of well-known and much-loved children’s classics. Along with Peter Pan, which is also a brand new production for this summer, The Railway Children will be following in the footsteps of hugely successful shows such as The Wind in the Willows, The Jungle Book and most recently The Secret Garden.

Individuals attending are strongly encouraged to bring your own rugs or low-backed seating.
