On Friday, November 13, the annual quiz night in aid of Rape Crisis Midwest will go virtual this year. For the last seven years, Rape Crisis Midwest have hosted a quiz night at Thomond Park, raising up to €15,000 annually and the night has played a huge contribution to keeping their servicesd alive.

Rape Crisis Midwest was founded in 1980 as Limerick Rape Crisis Centre. It was started by a group of women and men who were concerned about the lack of services for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Since then, they have worked to provide comprehensive information, professional support, and a quality counselling service for survivors of sexual abuse and violence throughout the Midwest region. Their vision is of a society where the rights of all adults and children to live a life free from all forms of sexual violence are upheld. They also aim to raise awareness, not only for the support of victims but for sexual consent and the prevention of abuse and violence.

This year, their committee has organised a virtual quiz night to provide vital funds for the sustainability of their operations. Their fundraising income has been seriously impacted by the pandemic we have sweeping through our nations and coronavirus has had a negative impact on their ability to meet their charity objectives over the next six months.

The quiz begins at 8 pm and is just €5 to enter and for an extra €5, you can enter the online raffle. Prizes include a Dunnes Stores gift voucher valued at €250, hampers, and other vouchers that can be won too. Winners will be announced on the night.

In a time like this, we all must come together and offer our support to charities like Rape Crisis Midwest. The quiz nights always guarantee a good night filled with fun and knowledge. Any donations made to Rape Crisis Midwest would be greatly appreciated by the charity!

So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
