Rape Crisis Midwest Volunteer Recruitment Drive will take place this March

Rape Crisis Midwest Volunteer Recruitment Drive and information evening takes place on Wednesday, March 15th, 6.00pm, in their Limerick centre.

Rape Crisis Midwest would like to invite the public to their upcoming volunteer information evening on Wednesday, 15th March, 6.00pm, in their Limerick centre. They are situated in Phoenix House, Punches Close, Rosbrien Road, Limerick city. This is a great opportunity to visit their centre and learn more about the work they do. They would encourage anyone interested in coming along and learning more about various volunteering opportunities available. There will also be information available on their Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) support worker training, commencing in April 2017. For anyone who would like to learn more about what this challenging but deeply rewarding role requires, the information evening provides an opportunity to voice any questions you may have concerning this particular volunteer role.

Unfortunately, there is still much stigma and shame surrounding the issue of sexual violence. It is not often they hear the personal stories of those who avail of Rape Crisis services in the Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary areas. Recently two survivors of historic childhood sexual abuse Bill and Una (names have been changed) made a decision to relay their experiences to the public. Rape Crisis Midwest would encourage all in the region to take some time to hear their stories – how their lives were impacted by sexual violence and ultimately how support received from local Rape Crisis Centres can act as a lifeline during times of personal crisis. You can hear Bill`s story on their web page. Una’s story will be available on their webpage in the coming weeks.

Rape Crisis Midwest would like to acknowledge that without the continuing support of a group of dedicated volunteers it would not be possible to maintain their core services – services vital to survivors like Bill and Una. They would like to sincerely thank all who volunteer, for their time and dedication to assist survivors of rape and sexual assault in the wider community. Volunteering can be an incredibly fulfilling experience and also presents opportunities to meet kind and compassionate people along with learning and growing new skills.

They would ask those who would like to attend the Rape Crisis Midwest Volunteer Recruitment to email Tracey to confirm at [email protected]
