Members of the Limerick Land Search team lift Myles Breen up ahead of the launch of the Walk in her Shoes event taking place on Saturday, April 11 at the University of Limerick.

On Monday night, Rape Crisis Midwest staff, volunteers and supporters arrived at the Strand Hotel for the launch of their annual event ‘Walk in Her Shoes’ – as the name suggests, the event is asking local men to put on a pair of high heels and ‘walk in her shoes’ to raise awareness around the topic of sexual violence.

In attendance, were the men from Limerick Land Search and Rescue who bravely wore red high heels for the photo shoot in an effort to raise awareness of issues relating to sexual violence. The photo was of course a promotional shoot in the lead up to the annual event organised by Rape Crisis Midwest – this event is taking place on Saturday, April 11 across the Midwest in Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. The Limerick venue is the University of Limerick at 2pm.

Miriam Duffy, Executive Director and Mary O’Donnell, committee member both spoke about the importance of such an event – this comes on foot of temporary closures across the Midwest last year in an effort to save costs.

The day will be very much a family day – women and children are more than welcome to attend. In addition, there is a photography competition in the build up to the event, ‘Theme Red’ where amateur photographers are asked to submit photos with the theme ‘red’. More details about the photography competition and the event itself are available on their website here. You can also check out Rape Crisis Midwest on their Facebook page here, and their Twitter here.
