Hundreds of excited Limerick children and their families visited the Lime Tree Theatre for opening night of this year’s pantomime, Rapunzel, promising a hair-raising adventure full of laughs and excitement from beginning to end.

The festive show is running until Sunday, January 5, 2025 and is it wonderful? Oh, yes it is! Filled with local gags and fun for audiences of all ages; the sets, costumes and lighting are all amazing and the show is one not to be missed by young or old.

Richard Lynch of I Love Limerick attended opening night and chatted with some of the cast and audience members about this year’s production, with one attendee saying, “The whole lot was my favourite part! From start to finish it was seamless, beautifully led from one scene; I couldn’t dissect it, I would say I loved everything about it!”

When asked about their favourite parts of the show, many viewers found it hard to choose, but some younger audience members loved the “dress to impress” piece which will have viewers in stitches, others said the dancing is what made the show memorable for them as well as the set.

Another member who attended the show with her family said the cast was made up of “super actors and actresses” adding she would recommend others to go and see it, saying, “It was fun, very interactive. Fantastic!”

Finding it difficult to pick a standout performance in such a strong cast, some attendees noted Mother Gothel played by Jessica Bray as a stand-out character saying she is an incredible singer as well as Rapunzel for her rapping skills and even the evil mayor Baldy and Nanny getting many mentions.

Speaking on opening night Mother Gothel (Jessica Bray) herself told I Love Limerick, “It’s just great to have the show open now!” adding, “And you know what? It’s lovely when the fruits of everybody’s labour come together and it was just a great success.”

Director and writer, Mike Finn said, “This is fabulous. It’s really great. I mean, I’ve been proud of the other ones in the last couple of years but this one is particularly good. I’m just so proud of this one. Everybody is absolutely on the top of their game!”

Speaking about the standing ovation the cast received after the final curtain came down, Rapunzel (Hazel Park) said, “It’s so good to finally have the show open and we had a full audience and just seeing all the little kids smiling back at us and waving was just incredible. We had so much fun.”
