Rathbane Golf Course, the city’s only public golf facility, is helping to fuel that excitement through its thriving junior programme, which has seen over 100 young golfers take to the fairways this summer.

In a nod to the global event, Rathbane introduced Ryder Cup format weeks for its junior members, giving them a taste of team-based competition and the values of respect, fair play, and sportsmanship. The initiative has been a standout success, with juniors enthusiastically embracing the format and making remarkable progress in their golfing journey.

Elaine O’Connor, Ryder Cup Coordinator with Limerick City and County Council, commented:
“It’s wonderful to see the young people in Limerick getting familiar with this format in anticipation of the Ryder Cup coming to Adare Manor in September 2027, alongside the Junior Ryder Cup event in Ballyneety Golf Club. The future looks bright for golf in Limerick.”

Building on this momentum, Rathbane Golf Course is proud to announce the launch of a brand-new initiative: the “Get Into Golf for Kidz” programme.

The programme started on August 23rd, and the six-week camp is open to children aged 5–11 and is designed to introduce golf in a fun, inclusive, and accessible way. Led by Lady Captain Esther Greene and course manager Colm McCarthy, both certified Golf Ireland Community Golf Instructors, the programme blends fresh air, friendship, and fundamentals to spark a lifelong love of the game.

Rathbane Golf Course continues to champion junior golf as a vital part of the sport’s future, offering opportunities for all children in Limerick to learn, grow, and enjoy golf in a welcoming environment.
