Regeneron Aid Renewal at Rathkeale Youth Space

It was all hands on deck at Limerick Youth Service’s Rathkeale Youth Space on Friday, November 23. Volunteers from Regeneron donned their overalls to help in the redevelopment of the popular West Limerick youth hub.

Rathkeale Youth Space is a centre for the delivery of youth work for West Limerick and is located at the Abbey Court area of Rathkeale.

The Regeneron team were in Rathkeale as part of the company’s ‘Day for Doing Good’ programme, a global initiative by the pharmaceutical company.

A member from Regeneron, Jack Kissane, spoke about the event.

“Our ‘Day for Doing Good’ programme is a company-wide day of service,’ Jack said, adding, ‘our staff volunteer their time to support local community organisations and charities.”

In Limerick, over three hundred Regeneron staff have supported thirteen local volunteer projects, including community organisations, schools and local charities.

“Regeneron staff member, Karen O’Connor, volunteers with the Limerick Youth Service (LYS) and is a member of its Board and that is why we chose the youth space in Rathkeale,” Jack said.

The support from Regeneron was greatly appreciated by LYS and the young people who benefit from the youth hub.

At the project was LYS’ Lisa Quirke, a Youth Work Coordinator for the Youth Space. “We are renovating our youth space and the support from Regeneron, from providing the materials and painting was a great help,” Lisa said.

“They were simply incredible and we really appreciate their hard work and support,” Lisa also mentioned.

The redevelopment at LYS’ Rathkeale Youth Space includes the creation of new activity rooms, meeting spaces and a lift, which will make it more accessible.

‘We aim to have the development ready for the New Year and would be delighted for the Regeneron team to come and visit,’ Lisa added, with a smile, ‘they can even bring their paint brushes!’

Rathkeale’s youth support hub is supported by the Department of Children & Youth Affairs with the renovation project supported by the LEADER funding through West Limerick Resources.

A member of Youth Work Ireland, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential.
