Gateway to Education Limerick has launched its ‘Read to Grow’ campaign, calling on the public to donate their used children’s books to promote literacy and global education, as well as promoting sustainability by giving unwanted books “a second life”.

Suzanne Roche of Gateway to Education Limerick said the group is asking the public to donate their unwanted children’s books for ages three to fourteen to help “encourage a love of reading” for people who need the support.

Suzanne said, “ We’re asking the public to donate children’s books for ages three to fourteen, which are no longer in use. Those books will be rehomed to support education and encourage a love of reading, and promote sustainability by giving books a second life.”

Many international charities and NGO’s are doing an excellent job fighting the ongoing problems of developing countries. They provide money, food, clothing and medicine, all of which are very much needed.

However, the problems are massive. Read to Grow say they have a slightly different approach where they believe that “teaching people from developing countries to support and educate themselves is extremely important”.

By distributing high-quality English and French books to small-scale projects abroad, the initiative aims to help communities build knowledge, skills, and independence.

“Through education, these countries can grow to become stronger, more self-sufficient and no longer dependent on help from others,” the organisation notes.

Suzanne told I Love Limerick, “ Each donation makes a difference. So if you, your school or your workplace can help, we would love your support. Together, we can grow the joy of reading and open doors through education. Thank you so much.”

Carrying out a number of initiatives over the years, Gateway to Education Limerick says, “Our projects over the years focus on Everyone having the right to reach their full potential by Homework Club, Book Voucher Schemes, Employment and more.”
