Red Cross Pushathon

On Sunday the 24th of August the Limerick branch of the Irish Red Cross will hold a Stretcher Pushathon Fundraiser. The event will take place at the University of Limerick running track from 12pm until 6pm.

This family fun day out will include a range of activities including face-painting, bouncy castles a BBQ, a Bothar petting zoo and entertainment for everyone.

Red Cross members taking part in the Pushathon will push stretchers for a three hour duration around the 1600 metre track. The money raised at the Pushathon and throughout the day will go to the Limerick branch of the Red Cross and be used to the benefit of the community through the services provided in the Limerick area by the Irish Red Cross.

Who they are.

The Irish Red Cross is part of the largest global network of voluntary humanitarian action in the world. The Red Cross have a national organisation in nearly every country in the world. In total there are around 189 Red Cross or Red Crescent societies around the world.

The Irish Red Cross provides voluntary ambulance services, mountain and lake search and rescue services as well as a wide variety of  community based health, social care and youth programmes and services in Ireland.

The Irish Red Cross provide first aid cover at a number of events around the country each week, from festivals to sporting events, you’ll find them there. They have over ninety vehicles including ambulances, mini buses and four wheel drive ambulances.

Volunteers of the Irish Red Cross are often called upon to help in search and rescue scenarios. From this these volunteers have developed specialist search and rescue skills to search for people in mountains as well as lakes. Volunteers also participate in major lowland searches for people too. Their skills and expertise are invaluable.

As well as this the Irish Red Cross help reunite families through their Restoring Family Links service, promote respect for human life and dignity by raising awareness of International Humanitarian Law and provide a never ending list of community services including a skin camouflage service and a helping you to care course.
