A record-breaking more than 18,000 runners, joggers, and walkers took to the streets of Limerick for the Regeneron Great Limerick Run 2025 for the events 16th edition

More than 18,000 runners, joggers, and walkers of all abilities took part in the 16th edition of the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, cementing its place as the largest mass participation event outside of Dublin.
Limerick’s streets were buzzing with energy and community spirit as the record-breaking number of participants took on the full marathon, half marathon, and six-mile events as Limerick was blessed with some great weather this May Bank Holiday weekend.
Supporters lined the streets in their thousands as they cheered on the participants and their loved ones as they took off from Pery Square and made their way along the three routes before being welcomed home to the iconic O’Connell Street finish line. The city was buzzing with energy, as more than 50,000 lined the route, cheering friends, family, and strangers alike in a true celebration of community and triumph.
As in previous years, the event also served as a powerful fundraising platform as thousands took the opportunity to support meaningful causes, building on the success of previous years where charitable contributions exceeded expectations. This year’s participants are forecasted to raise over €300,000 for a wide range of local and national charities— a testament to the power of collective effort and generosity.
The men’s marathon was won by Poland’s Pawel Kosek in 2:25:54. In the half marathon, Alex Murphy was the first female home in 1:20; Chris Jeuken won the men’s section in 1:08:40. John Travers claimed the men’s six-mile race in 29:24; the women’s first home was Sinead O’Connor with a time of 34:32. The relay was won by The Culchies of West Limerick Athletics Club in 2:33:31.
Among the standout moments was Limerick’s own Ava Crean, whose amazing performance saw her wit the women’s marathon. Ava told I Love Limerick she wasn’t training specifically for a marathon, but was fresh from her Manchester Marathon last week, Ava had what it took to come out on top in the Regeneron Great Limerick Run.
Talking about her journey, Ava said, “ I remember when I started running, I couldn’t even run a hundred meters without stopping or taking a break,” before adding, “ I wasn’t really training for a Marathon. I did the Manchester Marathon last week. I was training for that a good bit, but maybe 10 weeks. I started running during Covid, and I only started with like two or three kilometre runs, and I was dying by the end of it.”
Ava’s mum spoke proudly of her daughter, telling I Love Limerick, “ I was so shocked when I saw her coming around the corner, because my twin sister was with me, and she said maybe something happened to her. But when I saw her coming around, and saw her orange T-shirt I just got very emotional when I knew she had won.”
