Conor O’Regan (Chemical & Biological Engineering), Aaron Cummins and Lee O’Connor (both Industrial Biochemistry) were the first Regeneron Ireland College Award winners.

Students were invited to enter the Regeneron awards at the start of the college semester by preparing a presentation about specific topics related to their academic studies. The shortlisted candidates then presented and discussed their findings with a group of senior Regeneron managers who selected the winners.

Niall O’Leary, Vice President and Site Head, Regeneron said:

“We are delighted to welcome Aaron, Conor and Lee to Regeneron as future interns and I would like to personally congratulate them on their achievement. It is fitting that the inaugural winners of our new awards are from the local region and attend UL. Since we started in Limerick in 2014 we have grown our team to over 800 people and approximately 20% of our work-force has a degree from UL. We view our relationship with UL as the template for successful partnering between industry and academia and the “Regeneron Ireland College Award” further strengthens our connection.

Des Fitzgerald, President, University of Limerick added,

“Our relationship with Regeneron has allowed us to further bridge the gap between industry and academia. These awards give selected undergraduates an extremely advantageous opportunity and it is fantastic that our students can get a world-class experience in one of the world’s most innovative companies right on our doorstep. UL is very proud of our co-op programme and we are delighted to be collaborating with Regeneron on these awards.”
