Regeneron STEM Expo held for Students in Limerick

Regeneron held its first ever Regeneron STEM Expo for secondary school students last week at the company’s Industrial Operations and Product Supply (IOPS) facility in Raheen, Limerick.

280 students, teachers and parents visited the Regeneron STEM Expo to hear from employees on topics such as biologics manufacturing, a typical day in the life of a Regeneron employee and the practical steps to securing a career in a STEM-related industry.

This is just one of the many initiatives Regeneron has undertaken to support the uptake in STEM careers amongst primary and secondary school students. In late 2018, Regeneron announced a new awards programme in partnership with University Limerick (U.L.) and University College Cork (U.C.C.) which provides a monetary prize and internship position for selected students pursuing degrees in science, engineering and related disciplines.

Regeneron has recruited over 100 co-op interns in the past two years and another 70 college interns joined Regeneron in January 2019.  Next month, Regeneron will launch their 2019 Apprentice Programme.

Speaking about the STEM Expo event, Niall O’Leary, Vice President and Site Head, Regeneron Raheen said:

“We have a very talented workforce here at Regeneron that is eager to share their enthusiasm for the work that we do. We hope that talking to Regeneron employees will motivate these students to consider a career in STEM and possibly even a career with Regeneron in the future.”

Regeneron’s state-of-the-art Industrial Operations and Product Supply (IOPS) facility in the Raheen Business Park is the largest scale bulk biologics production and distribution facility in Ireland. IOPS is responsible for the production and distribution of Regeneron medicines.

IOPS manufactures a broad range of biopharmaceuticals for patients worldwide, including therapeutic proteins approved for marketing by regional or national regulatory agencies and those involved in clinical studies. The Raheen site currently employs more than 800 people and recruitment is underway to bring on additional high-end specialist jobs in commercial manufacturing, process sciences, quality assurance/control and various support functions for scientists, chemists and technicians.

Volunteering and community service is an essential part of the employee experience at Regeneron.  We empower our people to give back and create meaningful change through Regeneron in the Community, our company volunteer programme.  Not only do our employees donate their time, talent and leadership to help tackle our communities’ most pressing problems, but their involvement also inspires communal action.

In addition to the production facility in Limerick, the company has a Dublin office, currently employing more than 30 people and serving as the company’s European Business Administration headquarters.
