Limerick schoolchildren participate in Regional Climate Hope Forum

Schoolchildren from across Limerick attended An Taisce’s Regional Climate Hope Forum which took place in Limerick City and County Council’s City Library, Michael Street, Limerick today, April 27.

Students from Gaelscoil Chaladh an Treoigh, Croom National School, Crescent College SJ, St. Brigid’s National School, Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire and Mol an Óige Steiner National School all took part in the event which aims to strengthen the national dialogue on climate action and empower schools and students to confidentially encourage climate action in their local community.
Climate Action is about mitigation, reducing Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions and climate action at a national and international level to make Ireland more resilient to climate change.
Mayor of Limerick City and County, Cllr. Stephen Keary said he was delighted to welcome the regional Climate Hope Forum to Limerick, “Giving our young people a voice to allow them to feed into the national discussion is incredibly important,” he said. “It is also fantastic to hear about the range of case studies from green schools and climate ambassador programmes across the country.”
Grainne Ryan, Climate Action Officer, An Taisce said: “Regional Climate Hope Forums aims to strengthen the national dialogue on climate action and empower schools and their students to confidently encourage climate action in their local school community.”
Sinead Mc Donnell, Environment Awareness Officer, Limerick City, and County Council added: “The Climate Hope Forum is an excellent programme based on World Café events, bringing like-minded, solutions-oriented teachers and students together to discuss how working together we can create a bigger impact on climate change.”
