Total funding of  €192,193 is being made available under the Regional Museum Exhibitions Scheme 2025, which aims to improve the “cultural bodies to enhance their exhibitions”, benefiting local communities.

The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD made the announcement which will provide a series of small grants for local and regional museums around the country.

Projects funded under this scheme seek to enhance the cultural offering of museums, to encourage greater access to museums and to promote the use of museums as tourism resources in their locality or region.

Seventeen projects are benefitting from the scheme and the allocations will fund some very interesting and innovative exhibitions, including separate exhibitions such as the Richard Harris exhibition currently on display at the Hunt Museum, Limerick and another on the Limerick Ladies Football Club.

Other regional exhibitions benefiting from the fund include the 90th Anniversary of the Irish Met Service at Foynes; Medieval manuscripts in Marsh’s Library Dublin and a Georgian Tea Room experience in Strokestown House in Roscommon.

Minister O’Donovan said making the announcement gave him “great pleasure” and that the his department’s commitment to the scheme supports “has allowed cultural bodies to enhance their exhibitions and to improve the cultural offering to the communities they serve”.

He said, “These institutions are an extremely important resource for accessing culture and heritage in towns and villages across the country and contribute to a sense of place and community. Our local and regional museums collect, preserve and hold a great diversity of objects and materials of religious, cultural and historical value, providing a source of entertainment and wonder for visitors. These museums help to preserve and promote our cultural heritage and I send my best wishes for their continued success.”

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
