Tait House Community Enterprise launches Relove Paint Store offering recycled paint for sale and helping to reduce waste
Tait House Community Enterprise has launched its Relove Paint social enterprise store at unit 17 Galvone Industrial Estate offering recycled paint for sale and helping to reduce waste.
This is a circular economy initiative supported by Limerick City and County Council (LCCC), the My Waste Team / Southern Regional Waste Management Planning Office, Panda Greenstar, the Environmental Protection Agency`s Local Authority Prevention Network, the Rediscovery Centre and the Paint Reuse Network.
The Relove Paint Initiative: Leftover water-based paint discarded at LCCC`s Civic Amenity Centre in Mungret is collected by Tait House Community Enterprise representatives. The waste paint is filtered, recoloured and mixed into new, unique colours.
Now, Relove paint will be available for sale to the public, community groups, clubs and schools from Unit 17 Galvone Industrial Estate.
Benefits of Relove Paint include reducing waste and preventing paint from being exported for incineration; it offers affordable prices starting at €15 for 5 litres; and provides high-quality, recycled paint to local residents and organisations.
Tait House Community Enterprise is a social enterprise dedicated to promoting sustainability and community development in Limerick. The Relove Paint initiative demonstrates a commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran welcomes the initiative saying it is a “shining example” of how waste can be turned into “a valuable resource, contributing to our circular economy goals”.
He said, “By repurposing leftover paint, we are not only reducing waste but also providing affordable, high-quality paint to our community. This project paints a bright future for our sustainability goals in Limerick. Congratulations to all involved in making this vision a reality.”
Deputising for the Mayor of Limerick at the launch event, Cllr Pádraigh Reale commented, “It is vital that Limerick prioritises sustainability across all sectors from business to personal life. Environmental responsibility is a shared duty, and together we can make a significant impact. Congratulations to all involved in this initiative and I look forward to seeing Relove Paint brightening up communities across Limerick.”
Michael Quilligan, Manager, Tait House Community Enterprise Ltd stated, “People can bring their leftover paint to the civic amenity site, and we can repurpose it and make it available for resale. Prices start at €15 for 5 litres, making Relove Paint an affordable option for anyone looking to upgrade their space on a budget.”
Pauline McDonogh from My Waste Team Regional Waste Management Planning Office noted the store is a “win-win” for the economy and environment, noting, “Reuse & recycling initiatives like this one to ensure waste paint is captured, recycled and reused is an excellent example of local circular economy action.”
In line with Stop Food Waste Day (March 1st) and supported by the My Waste Team/Southern Regional Waste Management Planning Office, FoodCloud Kitchen provided catering at the Relove Paint launch. Attendees enjoyed eco-friendly food and participated in a food waste awareness briefing. FoodCloud, an award-winning Irish social enterprise, redistributes surplus food to create a more equitable, inclusive, and circular food system.
Partnerships for Sustainable Development: The Southern Regional Waste Planning Office, Tait House Community Enterprise, Limerick City and County Council, and FoodCloud were delighted to work in partnership to deliver these climate-positive and sustainable events aligning with the 17 Goals of Sustainable Development (SDG17).
Both events promote waste prevention and reuse, aligning with the primary objective of the National Waste Plan for a Circular Economy. Partnerships are crucial for achieving more sustainable outcomes, working towards Zero Hunger (SDG2), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12), and Climate Action (SDG13).
