Remembering Sarah Crowe: 80’s Inspired Disco raises over €5,000 for Cliona’s Foundation
Over €5,000 has been raised and donated by the Crowe family to Cliona’s Foundation, following an 80’s disco party to mark their daughter, Sarah Crowe’s, 16th birthday.
Sarah Crowe sadly passed away in 2016 following a long and brave battle with Alpers disease, aged just 12 years old. Sarah would have turned 16 in July and to celebrate her life and mark her birthday, her family held an 80’s Disco party in McGrath’s Bar in Kilfinane on Saturday, July 27. The night was filled with music, dancing, celebrating and remembrance.
Cliona’s Foundation was blown away by the donation, saying, “It was a wonderful night full of many emotions but a night where the family, friends, and community turned out in force to remember and celebrate Sarah. It is always very special and emotional when families we have supported give back to other families. Huge thank you to the wonderful Mary Crowe, David Crowe, and Jimmy Crowe for sharing this difficult but special moment with Cliona’s Foundation and the other families that this money will enable us support.
She was the oldest living person with Alpers disease which she bravely fought for 9 years. Alpers syndrome is a progressive neurologic disorder that begins during childhood, for which there is still no cure.
Cliona’s Foundation provides financial assistance to critically ill children all over Ireland. Founded in 2007 by Brendan and Terry Ring, in memory of their daughter Cliona who died of an inoperable brain tumour, Cliona’s Foundation has raised in excess of €870,000 already helping more than 230 families across Ireland. Cliona’s Foundation receives no financial state support and relies on the generosity of the public for support and to ensure its continuity.
The Crowe’s would also like to thank their friends, family, work colleagues and everyone who made the night such a success and remembered Sarah in the way she would have loved best.
